Let's begin with something easy. Everyone can agree that Iran is bad, really bad. Under the leadership of Ahmenijhad with his insane rush for nuclear weapons, and avowed intention to destroy Israel, Iran currently poses the greatest external threat to Israel.
During the Cold War between the USSR and the US it was the very sanity of each country's leaders that kept these two superpowers from destroying each other and the whole world in one giant Nuclear holocaust. The counterbalance that prevented war was known by the acronym M.A.D. which stood for Mutual Assured Destruction. The knowledge by each side that the other had the capability to destroy it kept them both in check.
Ahmenijhad, on the other hand, has clearly stated that he's willing to sacrifice half his population to achieve his goal of destroying Israel. Such insanity nullifies the M.A.D. doctrine as military parity is not enough to prevent attack by someone who is willing to sacrifice so much.
Thus a new doctrine must be implemented to create enough external pressure on Iran to prevent it from attempting our annihilation. We must assume, that if push came to shove, the greater world, even our good friends the United States, might consider it an acceptable loss for Iran to wipe out Israel while Israel destroys a good percentage of Iran in retaliation as long as the conflict remains isolated to those two countries.
Our new doctrine will be called G.A.D. Global Assured Disruption. The idea is simple. We have to create a doomsday scenario which cause the rest of the world, or a least a good part of it to care if we get destroyed.
Under G.A.D. a nuclear attack on Israel by Iran, or really any country, would result in the following automatic response:
- The destruction of all major cities in the attacking country.
- The destruction of the entire oil production capabilities of the Persian Gulf states.
- The release of EMP's over several Western regions.
- The destruction of the holiest sites of the world's major religions
I'm open to other suggestions. The idea, of course, to create enough threat of chaos, with minimal loss of life, to force the rest of the world to assure our safety.

Introduction
OK, let's get down to business.
First things first. I consider myself to be a non-Messianic Religious Zionist. What this is means is that I firmly believe that the creation of the State of Israel and all the events surrounding it were and are of Divine origin. I believe that in the creation of the State there exists the potential for the coming the final redemption and the messianic era, but it has been left up to us to complete this process. Hence the terms Atchalta D'Geula and Reishit Smichat Geulateinu fit in perfectly with this ideology, i.e. something began, it's up to us to determine what that something becomes.
In the spirit of Rav Kook I believe that the secular Zionists who literally built this country from the ground up undertook a divine mission, whether or not they themselves viewed it that way. They created a magnificent physical vessel into which it was the duty of the religious world to fill it with spirituality. To a large extent, whether intentional or not, this has happened. Israel is now the center of Jewish religious life for the entire world. Something that could not have happened without the foresight and hard work of the early Zionists.
Even though many of the early Zionists rejected religion on the surface their energies where nevertheless powered by an underlying religious ethos. As the new generations of secular Zionists move further and further from this ethos the engine that drove their fathers is slowly petering out. This combined with booming religious demographics is rapidly changing the social fabric of the country. The only ideology truly positioned to bridge the transition from a secular driven Jewish society to a religiously driven one are the religious Zionists. The recognition of this fact, or lack thereof, will ultimately decided the fate of this endeavor.

Welcome
Well I've done it! After all those years of commenting on various list-servers and blogs I finally decided to put my mouth where my blog is.
This blog actually has a purpose. I'm going to endeavor to create a platform for what I consider to be the ideal political party here in Israel. I've name this blog and my party the Sechel party. Sechel is the Hebrew word for common sense. Given the disparity of opinions here in Israel I guarantee you that many, if not most, people reading this will NOT think that my views represent Sechel.
Over time I hope present my opinions of the various issues facing our country and in a very non-political move hope to use your feedback to hone those positions.
Maybe someday I'll be Prime Minister. Of course if that ever happens I'll be the first English-speaking Prime Minister of the State of Israel!
